
Pranayam
The foremost production of Fragrant Nature Film Creations was the movie "Pranayam" by aced director Blessy in 2009. The film commences with Achutha Menon (Anupam Kher), a sexagenarian moving cities stay with his daughter-in-law and granddaughter following a heart attack. A former football player, he had been selected in the State team but could never play for them. He had altered his life and career to accommodate the romance in his life.
One day, Menon sees his former wife Grace (Jaya Prada) in the elevator. Overwhelmed by the shock of the unexpected encounter, he collapses. Grace, who is staying in the same building with her husband, daughter and son-in-law, takes Menon to the hospital. The depth of their relationship is unfolded in the following sequences where Grace is anxious about the well-being of her former spouse.
Grace's husband Mathews is a retired philosophy professor, enacted by Mohanlal. Owing to physical ailments, he is limited to the bed and depends on his wife for everything. Their physical intimacy portrayed even in such a disabled state is a clear hint that about their lively romantic life in the prime of their youth or before the malady struck.
The sudden re-awakening of acquaintance between the couple agitates the children. In the latter half of the film, even Menon joins the couple, taking occasional strolls in the neighborhood. The trio take a trip to a beach resort.
At the resort, Mathews suffers from a stroke and is rushed to the hospital. At the same time, Grace succumbs to a heart attack, while Mathews survives. The final scene displays Mathews placing flowers at her gravestone, Menon helping him and finally wheeling him off to somewhere where one hopes the two friends will have comfort and companionship for the rest of their years.
